5 For Friday!

Here are some tips and tools from the week that have helped our family and team.  

1. SMASH for Better Mood: Salmon, Mackerel, Anchovies, Sardines and Herring. Rich in omega-3 fatty acids they are powerful influencers on brain health.

2. Light to Light Game: There has been (on more than several occasions) times where my kids and I are in a rush for school drop off. We have all had those mornings - constantly feeling like we are behind and the clock continues to tick away

A game that works for me EVERY-TIME is simple yet effective. From traffic light to traffic light simply think (or even better say out loud) everything you are grateful for. If the kids are in the car, get them involved too

Sounds too easy? Just give it a try. Every single time I find myself in a better mood and better ready to face the day

3. Just Show Up From Dr. Shahana - I’ll never forget a time during my internal medicine rotation where a colleague said a few words that changed my life. I was going through a particularly stressful time and honestly felt like I didn’t have it in me to continue my schooling.

On this particular day I confided in her that I was really struggling. She just looked at me and simply said “You showed up and that’s the hardest part…just keep showing up”. 

I’m sure there are many of you out there who can relate to how I felt but when things get especially tough I remind myself of this sage advice. I had a gut feeling it might help a few of you too.  – Dr. Shahana
