Here are some tips and tools from the week that have helped us be better.

1. Is there a mind-body connection to healing back pain? Absolutely, for years I struggled with the fear of making my lower back injury worse and would avoid simple movements. I remember reading my MRI and seeing the disc herniation and created an image in my head of an injured part. I created a dysfunctional and unhealthy pain blueprint in my mind. When you start to uncover your fears and past traumas you can start the healing process. Fear will always be there but you can erase the doubt that you won’t get better.

2. Beef: Did you know that beef from animals fed a grass fed diet have 5 times more omega-3 fatty acids than an abnormal diet. Omega 3 has anti-obesity effects and has been shown to move fat away from the viscera (belly fat) to other areas.

3. Water Tip: Take an “Inner Bath” to start your day: Front load the water intake to ensure you are not starting off in a deficit.

4. Protein Intake: The Journal of Nutrition, Health and Aging revealed of those age 51 and up, 46% were not consuming adequate protein. Likely some are considerably overshooting and others are undershooting. Recommended daily intake (the minimum) is 0.4g for each pound you weigh and 0.9g for those very active. If you are 170lbs you may need to consume between 68g and 153 g a day of protein. *May need to be altered for specific conditions.
